We are honored that people trust us with their furry friends. Some owners have more anxiety than their dogs on their first day. We calm both the dogs and their people by introducing the dogs to their new surroundings off leash and into a small well-known group of dogs.
We may be accused of anthropomorphasizing because we believe that dogs have feelings. If you have ever seen a dog smile, you have experienced dog happiness first hand. As they can be happy, so can they be sad and anxious when left with strangers. We do our best to comfort them, and make them feel a part of our family.
We love this quote:
"The charming relations I have had with a long succession of dogs results from their happy spontaneity.... Often I yearn to give them speech, their motions are so eloquent with things they cannot say. Truly, as companions, friends, equals in opportunities of self-expression, they unfold to me the dignity of creation, and their joy smiles the blessing of Saint Francis."

"We recently moved to Sonoma County and have a golden ret/lab mix. He was a service dog in training until he was released for health reasons. He is 5 now, and we try to keep him happy, healthy, and pain free.
When we met Sherrie and Kim and toured AHDDC,we knew right away that Donnelly would love it. They have it set up with the "day care" area separted into play and rest areas, giving the dogs a chance to chill out occasionally, which we like.
We were thrilled to learn that Sherrie and Kim do overnight "sleep-overs" in their home. They only take a few dogs home with them so the dogs get special attention, like hanging out in the house, sleeping in the kitchen with their dogs, and going outside when they wish through the doggy door. They are very attentive to Donnelly's medical needs, and basically take such good care of our boy that when we have to leave town, we miss him dearly, but we sure don't worry about him.
Donnelly arrives at Almost Home super excited and comes home tired and happy. He has such a great time. My wife and I are very pleased to have found such a great facility and staff. Peace of Mind and a Happy Dog are good things!Steve and Susan Evans, Santa Rosa
"Peyton, our 1 year old Golden Retriever, LOVES spending one day a week at AHDDC. We can tell that she has played hard by her mellow attitude upon returning home that lasts through the next day! The outside play area is huge so those "rambunctious" types can run to their heart's content and get their squiggles out before returning home. It is a safe environment for socialization with all sizes and ages of dogs. AHDDC has earned my trust and high recommendation"Sally Percich, Forestville
Georgie, my one year old Bichon, absolutely loves his play days at "Almost Home". He has a blast, it's great exercise, and I've noticed a real positive change in his self-confidence and socialization skills. Little dogs rule!!Sandy Keach , Santa Rosa
"I am so thankful I found "Almost Home Doggie Day Care"!
I knew that my dogs needed more activity and socialization when my German Shepherd mix, Hunny, started chewing pillows. blankets, and anything else she could reach in my home, during the hours I was at work. I watched "The Dog Whisperer" t.v. show on the Animal Planet channel, and he suggested that these dogs would benefit from more socialization.. what he calls "pack therapy". I decided to try Almost Home. Within two visits Hunny has stopped chewing and destroying parts of my house. She is calmer and happier.
I also have a King Charles Cavalier, named Ray Charles, who is blind. He quickly learned to navigate from the inside to the outside on his own, and he finds the best doggy bed for an afternoon nap. He is just "one of the guys". From the start, Sherrie and Kim understood how to manage Ray and his special needs.
I haven't had a vacation in one and half years because I have been unable to find someone I trust to care for my dogs. Finally I can take my vacation because Sherrie & Kim provide overnight care also.
Thank you Almost Home for taking care of my dogs with professional and loving care!"

When I first began bringing Orsini, my blue-eyed, 5 month old, mini-Aussie to Almost Home he had terrible separation anxiety. He wouldn't let me out of his sight, and had an incessant high-pitched bark. To make matters worse he also wouldn't come when he was called.
Sherrie and her crew spent some time with Orsini, and then asked me an unexpected question: Could he be deaf? It never occurred to me that his behaviors might be the result of feeling isolated by deafness. No wonder he didn't come when I called him. I have found a perfect new home for him with a 12 year old deaf boy who wants to train a deaf dog in sign language.
Thank you Almost Home for helping me to fulfill Orsini's destiny.

Nearly 4 months ago, George and I gave Sonoma a home...what we didn't bank on, was unlike Lady, our 6 year old female beagle, Sonoma would be a wild man. He bayed, he chewed, he used Lady as
his personal plush toy. And, he never stopped running. What's a pet parent to do?
We knew we had to find a sitter for him while we went on our New Year's weekend date and alas, no where to go. One day riding in George's truck, we spotted "Almost Home" on Gravenstein Hwy. We stopped out of curiosity and took Sonoma and Lady inside. Sonoma found his home away from home. He spent New Years weekend with Kim and Sherrie and since then has been coming once a week for his own playtime.
What a difference "Almost Home" has made in our family. He romps and plays so much that he is totally spent and contented for at least a day after his visit. And, our family is much more calm. Lady can sleep more than he had let her, and we can enjoy him in a relaxed mode.
We love Almost Home, and Sherrie and Kim, for giving us and Lady a haven.
P.S. Lady loves it there too, but mostly likes the big comfy cushions. We usually keep her home with us and it gives her special time for us alone."

My family and I have two dogs who are accustomed to getting a lot of love: an Australian Shepherd/ Border Collie named Lucy, and an 85 lb. Golden Lab mix named Muffin.
Muffin in particular doesn't like being left with strangers. He was a "rescue" dog who had been bounced around and quarantined as a puppy before we adopted him. Probably as a result he seems to have "abandonment" issues. When we've boarded him in the past he gave us a doleful, guilt-inducing look when we left, and howled when we picked him up to let us know he wasn't happy with the facilities, or with us leaving him.
It was different, however with Sherrie and Kim at Almost Home. My family and I were out of town for two full weeks over the Christmas holiday. While I knew the dogs would be safe, I was worried that Muffin would feel abandoned and get depressed.
What a surprise when we returned! Lucy and Muffin were both excited, happy, and healthy. In addition we have visited Almost Home a couple of times since, and Muffin and Lucy are both eager to go there, and genuinely happy to see Sherrie and Kim, and their canine friends again!
Dogs don't lie. Sherrie and Kim really care about their "customers"; and they are nice people too.

We were delighted to discover Almost Home Doggie Day Care for our 1 year old Springer Spaniel, Sophie. We had tried a couple other Day Cares and Sophie couldn't wait for us to come get her at the end of the day. We immediately felt comfortable with Kim and Sherrie - the facilities are clean, lots of room to run, and activities for the dogs both inside and out. Sophie LOVES to go there - she sprints to the door, always finds dogs to play with all day long, and comes home tired and happy (which makes us happy)!
